A less well known poster made by Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad in the 1980s as an advertisement for "The Ugly Duckling" by the fellow countryman Hans Christian Andersen. This poster was only made in a limited edition and was only available for a few months in the 1980s making this Wiinblad poster one of the kind.
The poster displays Hans Christian Andersen (who is easily recognized by his nose) surrounded by books and children reading aloud his famous fairy tale "The Ugly Duckling".
The Ugly Duckling was set up in 1989 the Royal Theater in Copenhagen featuring Lise la Cour (choreographer), Bent Fabricius-Bjerre or "Bent Fabric" (pianist and composer) and Wiinblad who mad the stage decor and costume designs.
The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic stylish line. This artwork is differently true to his special line - this horse rider looks like his is wearing some kind of Oriental clothing with a twist of imagination.
The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special.
Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. He is (among other museums) represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
