This colorful beauty of a poster was originally intended to be a part of the SAS calendar of 1966.

The theme of the calendar was "Dances of the world" by the famous Danish artist Otto Nielsen.

Performance of sword dances in the folklore of Scotland is recorded from as early as the 15th century but related dances can be found many places in Europe. Gillie Callum, also the Sword Dance or shortly called the Swords, is a Scottish solo sword dance from the Highland Dancing. Most of the other sword dances differs in that the swords are not held in the hand, but crossed on the floor, while the dancer dances it without touching it (as seen on the poster). The dance is always danced to the same piece of music that is usually played by a bagpiper live.
